To survive, Bangabazar traders look for interest-free loans

The Bangabazar fire victims have applied for interest-free loans to help them continue their businesses and pay off their debts to banks.

They also demanded that the government build new infrastructures there for commercial activity.

When speaking with reporters in front of the damaged market today, the traders of Bangabazar Market made the demand.

On Monday, a terrible fire in Bangabazar and the surrounding marketplaces destroyed almost 5,000 small shops.

Businessman Daud Mia told UNB while standing in front of his burned-out shop that he just obtained a Tk 15 lakh loan from the bank using his house as security.

“Together with other items, the commodities from my three shops were destroyed in the fire, leaving me helpless. There isn’t a plan in place for paying the installments. I am requesting a loan from the government at no interest in order to pay back the bank loan “He remarked while crying.

In order for the traders who have clothing in their warehouses to sell them, the businesspeople pleaded with the government to permit opening up stores in the same location once more.

According to the authorities, an evaluation is being conducted to evaluate the fire’s losses in order to, presumably, come up with a plan for helping the impacted businessmen.
