Begum Monnujan Sufian, the state’s minister of labor and employment, encouraged the owners of garment factories today to pay employees’ wages for March and festival bonuses before the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays started.
The labour ministry announced today that factory owners must pay salaries for the seven workdays in April before the Eid vacations in accordance with the law.
The decision was announced by the state minister at the Shromo Bhavan at Dhaka’s 14th tripartite consultative committee (TCC) meeting for the ready-to-wear industry.
The TCC is a group established for the benefit of the apparel industry and is made up of government representatives, factory owners, and labor leaders.
According to a statement from the labor ministry, the TCC did not decide on the payment of wages for the 10 to 20 days in April before the Eid break.
However, it was stated that any owner could pay their employees’ salaries for the first 10 to 20 days of April in advance.
The state minister also gave the plant owners instructions to abide by government regulations when it came to enabling employees to use vacation days.
