Saudi Arabia announces the Eid date

The official announcement from Saudi Arabia states that Friday, April 21, will be Eid-ul-Fitr’s first day.

The kingdom’s moon-sighting commission stated on Thursday that Ramadan will end on April 20 and that Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations would begin on Friday.

As Ramadan, a month-long fast, comes to an end, Muslims throughout the world are preparing for Eid al-Fitr 2023. The first day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday, April 22, Oman said on Thursday.

Since the length of the lunar month is either 29 or 30, Muslims often have to wait until the night before Eid to determine its date. Local moon sighters will scan the horizon on Friday, April 21, after sunset to look for the crescent moon in nations where Ramadan began on March 24.
