18 dead in Mexico tourist bus crash

When a tourist bus carrying Mexican visitors crashed into a ravine in the western state of Nayarit on Sunday, at least 18 of them were killed and 20 others were hurt, according to AFP.

According to civil protection officer Pedro Nunez, the bus was carrying tourists on a 220-kilometer (136-mile) trip from Guadalajara in the adjacent state of Jalisco to the seaside resort of Guayabitos in Nayarit when it ran off the road.

It remained unclear what caused the mishap late on Saturday.
According to Nunez, all of the passengers were citizens of Mexico.
