This decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting held on Monday (June 19) led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Due to this decision, there will be a four-day holiday this Eid. Besides, adding Saturday’s weekly holiday, the Government employees will get a total of five days off.
As per the earlier announcement, the Eid holiday was scheduled to take place from June 28 to 30 (Eid depends on the sighting of the moon, so the date of the holiday is also variable). Now the Eid holiday will start on June 27. If the holy Eid-ul-Azha falls on June 29 subject to moon sighting, then the Eid holiday will be from June 27 to 30. The next day, July 1, is a weekend holiday. As a result, this year’s Eid holiday will be five days.
Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order meeting on June 13 had recommended extending the Eid holiday by one day. Besides, after the law and order meeting held on Sunday ahead of Eid, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan commented that the proposal to extend one day of holiday on Eid was logical.
Earlier, the Government had extended the holiday by one day last Eid-ul-Fitr as well.
