Burglars stole diamond jewelry worth over Tk 2 crore from a shop located in Dhanmondi’s Metro Shopping Mall on Sunday.
Police said burglars, numbering at least five, entered the ‘Trust Diamond’ showroom located on the 3rd floor of Metro shopping mall shortly after 10am in the morning, shortly after breaking the shop’s shutter. Later, they fled the scene with the booty of diamond ornaments over Tk 2 crore.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi police station Parvez Islam said that various diamond jewellery items worth over Tk 2 crore were stolen by breaking the shutter of the showroom. “After receiving the information about this incident, we visited the spot,” he said.

“We have already collected the CCTV footage of the market. The footage shows a group of five people entering the shop and after a while they left with the booty,” the OC said.
Quoting the owner of Trust Diamond, OC Parvez said he came to know that the owner of Trust Diamond is working for renovation on a new showroom on the ground floor of Metro Shopping Mall. So he rented a shop on the 3rd floor and kept the diamond jewellery there.
Officials of various agencies, including CID and DB, have visited the location. The police officer said that preparations are underway to file a case.
