A total of five shops and godowns of city’s business hub Jahur Hawkers market were gutted in a fire that broke out at a godown of the market under Kotwali thana today.

Md Amin, Joint Secretary of Jahur Hawkers market told BSS that the fire originated from unknown sources at a godown of Hazi Nur Sobhan Cloth store in the area at around 11.30 am today and quickly engulfed the adjacent shops.
Six firefighting units from different area in the city and district rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 1 pm this noon.
Victim shop owner Mohammad Osman claimed that the fire damaged properties worth about Taka two crore.
