No more Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury

Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, a well-known doctor, has passed away.

He passed away on Tuesday night while receiving medical care at the capital’s Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.

On Monday, Dr. Zafrullah had been placed on life support due to a serious medical condition. After becoming extremely ill on April 7, he was brought to the Nagar Hospital. He has difficulties related to aging and his kidneys.

Zafrullah is a well-known doctor and public health advocate from Bangladesh. In 1966, he graduated from Dhaka Medical College with a medical degree.

Thereafter, he attended Johns Hopkins University in the US to earn a master’s degree in public health. He was undergoing surgical training in London in 1971 when the Bangladesh Liberation War broke out.

He quickly constructed a field hospital with his colleagues after returning home to care for battle wounded. He established Gonoshasthaya Kendra in 1972 with the intention of offering healthcare services to Bangladesh’s underserved populations.
